I’m looking forward to returning to the Hotwalls Creative Market this weekend – 14/15th May. There’s not one but SIX brand new prints to show you, amongst them two reduction linocuts and a couple of prints made from Tetra Pak. I’ll be bringing some old favourites and a selection of greetings cards.

We continue to grow
This print was made during the first few months of Lockdown. I was feeling positive as working from home and not commuting to work gave me more time for printing. I was more able to support local independent shops, have video calls with friends and family – which added to the feel good factor. I guess I tend towards seeing the positive in a situation. I saw the plants growing in my garden at the same time images of Coronavirus were everywhere. Along came the print showing them continuing to grow.
It exudes a certain joy for me but with the knowledge that Covid lurks in the background.

I had a pitch at the market next to the lovely ceramicists, Lynn Nichols and Wendy Brennan, and opposite Kelly Jane Hickman. I took new framed prints and a browser full of current and older work, as well as greetings cards. What a positive, well organised event to be part of!

During Lockdown walks along the seafront I saw the blocks in various states. It was fascinating to see them revealed at low tide or hidden underwater apart from the tell tale marker poles showing where boats cannot pass. One day I saw the damaged boat that had crossed the line. The blocks attract local swimmers , acting as a distance marker and general meeting point.
This print captures the early morning stillness and a sole swimmer out in the water.

Whilst working in Mercantile House on a 6 month contract it was hard not to gaze at the city from my viewpoint on the upper floors. I initially produced a print inspired by the views and then moved onto other buildings on the campus including Mercentile House itself.

A road trip around Scotland left me gasping at every turn – stunning vistas and so much space and sky. This reduction print was cut and printed in three stages. What remains of the original lino is also shown – this means it can never be reprinted.

This is my 4th year participating in Created In Portsmouth – I’m exhibiting at venue 22 with CopperHare, Louise Griffiths-Kimber and Sue Meredith. Come and join us at our preview between 5 and 8, there’ll be wine and nibbles if you need any further temptation.
Omega Printmakers have an exhibition every two years to showcase the work of the members. The exhibition is looking fabulous with over 20 printmakers exhibiting in the beautiful St Thomas’ Cathedral in Old Portsmouth. It’s a wonderful venue to see the limited edition prints and cards on show.
Local places captured in simple lino form. I have been taking local buildings, sights and views and translating them into simple linos. Here are just some of them and, of course, there are many more to capture yet.
A trip to the Palatine region of Germany inspired this print which is part of a series taking inspiration from a weather beaten castle on a small mount in the forest. The walls were worn and pitted reflecting inner thoughts and emotions.
